Sometimes the heads of these bolts can be sheared off during maintenance or because of stress. Removing a broken bolt on a Ford Focus isn't difficult,...

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Park the Ford Focus that contains the broken bolt in a location that will give you room to work, such as a garage or driveway. Place the Focus in park and set the parking brake. Allow the engine approximately 30 minutes to cool.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Locate the broken bolt that you want to remove. Spray the area with penetrating lubricant and allow it to soak in for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Attach a vise grip to any portion of the bolt that is sticking out. Tighten the vise grip and turn counterclockwise to loosen the bolt.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Heat the bolt with a plumbing torch until the bolt and the surrounding area turn a dull, red color. This will expand the bolt and allow it to be loosened more easily. Turn the bolt counterclockwise with the vise grips.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Sand down the bolt flush with the surrounding area. Attach a small bit to your power drill and drill a starter hole in the center of the bolt. Screw a bolt extractor into the bolt. These have left-handed threads that will help loosen the bolt and allow it to be removed.
